Young People's Laureate for London Tour

Establishing outer London libraries as hubs to engage young people with the arts

Across 2017 and 2018 Spread the Word’s Young People’s Laureate Tour helped young people develop their skills, as well as broadening the reach of local libraries as centres for creativity.

Led by Caleb Femi and Momtaza Mehri, during their tenures as Young People’s Laureate for London, the tour visited the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Brent, Bromley, Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Newham Redbridge, and Sutton.

After a series of initial meetings with the Laureate, a team of young people in each library met regularly to design a day of workshops, performances and open mic sessions to be delivered in their libraries during October half term. Over two years the programme engaged with over 2,445 young people across 10 boroughs.
