Maryville
An exhibition by Emily Witham
Something Happening presents Maryville, a free solo exhibition by Emily Witham at The Parlour Gallery, Triangle, Deptford.
Commissioned for the Maryville Salon, taking place from 17–19 July, the exhibition brings together a body of newly developed works alongside pieces exhibited in London for the first time, taking its title and inspiration from Joelle Taylor’s acclaimed poetry collection Maryville (Bloomsbury, 2025).
Responding to the histories and imagined worlds that shape Taylor’s text, Witham explores the nuances of lesbian counterculture and the enduring significance of queer spaces, in particular, the dyke bar.
This exhibition presents a combination of textiles, installation art and image-making that reflects the artist's interest in the ways dyke communities in the UK have navigated changing landscapes by creating their own visual culture, and in how historic coded symbolisms create new iconographies.
The exhibition is free to attend during opening hours below - and can also be viewed by ticketholders during the Maryville Salon events below.
