Hounslow School Poetry Slam

Developed by poet Adam Kammerling in partnership with the Hounslow School Library Service, the Hounslow School Poetry Slam has engaged secondary schools in Hounslow with poetry for eight years.

Year 7 pupiils from each participating school get the chance to work with leading poet-educators before taking part in a hotly-contested poetry slam.

Following the slam, students work with artist Grace Kress to develop small zines, collating poetry and artwork to reflect on their experiences.

A wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence & love poetry.

I had young people who on the whole were not in the slightest bit engaged with poetry, and by the end we were having a nice time together. I worked hard to give them confidence and I was kind of proud when they lost the final slam but were still convinced that they were great... and they were!
